This brilliant character is by Iroko and out of a very successful line of jumping mares. Bought as a 3 year old by Dassett Eventing, Joey spent much of his 4 year old year learning the ropes in Ireland and came over to our UK base later in 2016.
Joey competed at BE100 level as a 5yo and Novice level as a 6yo, proving to be a fabulous jumper. In 2019, as a 7yo, Joey placed and jumped great double clears at six consecutive Novice level events, as well as his first international event, Rockingham Castle CCI-S2*. He gained multiple placings at Intermediate level and jumped clear and inside the time at his first long format event. Before the Covid-19 pandemic, Joey’s plan was to step up to Advanced level in the summer of 2020, but as with all the horses, his plans got pushed back. He had some brilliant Intermediate runs throughout the 2020 season, including double clear around the tough track at Cornbury and rounding off the season with a 2nd place at Oasby. Joey was sold to the young and talented Izzy Hall at the end of 2020, and we were delighted to welcome the pair back to DE HQ at the start of 2023, as they base themselves with Team DE during Izzy’s gap year and whilst Izzy studies at in Oxford. The pair had a cracking 2023 season rarely out of the placings at Intermediate and great results in their first CCI-S3* runs.
In 2024, Izzy combined her studies at university with competing Joey, before Joey was sold later in the year to the most wonderful home, where he has already been winning with his new family!
