It was time for the young guns to get their party gear on last weekend for the 5yr old qualifier class at Buckminster Park.
Amelia had both Mr Fancy and Mr Perfect Pants out in the form of Dassett Rockstar and Dassett Select respectively, whilst Craig was flying the flag for the girls with mega mare, Dassett Curra Candy.
The torrential rain which welcomed Dassett Select into the dressage arena did nothing to pull his focus as he delivered his trademark best effort for a very impressive 25.3. Not to be beaten however, Dassett Rock Star upped his game to knock it out of the park to take the lead from his stable mate with a very ‘fancy’ 23.5 !!! Dassett Curra Candy was next up and held her own to score 32 which left them all in contention with the jumping still to come.
The technical SJg track had been causing trouble all morning and the Dassetts were not immune to its questions, with Dassett Curra Candy and Dassett Rock Star both lowering a pole and Dassett Select having a very unusual 2 fences.
It was however by no means over, a good spread of dressage marks and plenty of dislodged show jumps meant that heading to XC Dassett Rock Star still held his early lead and Dassett Select was right behind him in third slot.
Dassett Curra Candy showed the boys how it should be done by flying round in style to finish inside the time and very pleased with herself! Fortunately both boys decided to follow suit and ate up the educational track to not only finish the day in 1st and 3rd position but also qualifying for the Young Horse Championships to be held at Osberton Horse Trials in October!!
Craig was left with a case of ‘so near yet so far’ as his rail down cost him 2nd place and his ticket to the Championships, but 7th place was still a respectable spot and there are a few more chances to try to book that elusive ticket so watch this space!
With three lovely young horses finishing the day happy, confident and in the top ten it was a great day out for the Dassett babies, roll on Osberton!!!
