We were very grateful to Llyod Hunt and his team at LandS Eventing for putting on 2 great days of training shows at the wonderful local venue, Dallas Burton.
Day 1 was a showjumping round on their great all weather arena, followed by a short hack down to the polo fields for a 1km course of cross country fences. Lesley Rocher and Sheena Hawkin’s Dassett Showgirl (Lola) and Andrea Burdett’s Dassett Forever Autumn both had a spin around the 100cm class and both jumped lovely double clears. Despite neither mare having schooled cross country, they popped around like (excited!) pros. I also gave Boleybawn Dassett Cruise (Joey) a ride around the 100cm as there was a spare entry and he was so, so cool! Normally piloted by Amelia, I had not ridden this exceptional jumper cross country before, and I can now see why Amelia always comes home full of smiles!
Day 2 was just show jumping. Drombane Dassett (Pete) jumped a very neat round in the 1.10m, whilst HHS Dassett Class (Matt), Call Me Dassett (Cas) and Robert Snaddon’s McQueen (Brad) all jumped well around the 1.20m. This was the first outing for all these horses since Spain, and I could clearly feel the improvement in them. Both Cas and Brad also jumped in the 1.30m, and aside from Cas being a little keen at the start of his round, both horses made the height seem like a warm up class…back in 2 weeks for the 1.40m…!
